Song Review: Rapture Ruckus feat Shuree - In This Together

Hello, bloggers. How's your day? I hope yours are pretty good so far. It's been so busy with studying and doing assignments (though I haven't finished those yet hehe). In this short free time I have, I would like to make a song review. This is my first review post.

Have you ever heard Rapture Ruckus? I bet you haven't. I am not surprised because this band is indeed not famous. This band is a Christian Hip Hop/Rock Band from New Zealand. Because they are Christian, I think it's not astonishing that they are not famous in this country. Hehe. They have released 4 albums and 12 singles and one of them has caught my ear to listen to. Here it is:

Rapture Ruckus feat Shuree - In This Together Lyrics

You are my brother
You are my sister
Made by the same God
Loved by the same heart
We've got to lift up
We've got to give love
Oh that's how the world will know us

[Chorus]
I'll be the hand that you can hold
When you can't make it on your own
I promise you are not alone
We're in this together
I'll be your shelter from the rain
Lift up your head don't be afraid
Oh there is nothing we can't face
We're in this together
We're in this together
We're in this together
We're in this together

And when you're filled with doubt
Your walls come crashing down
I'll be there by your side
Together walking through this fire
We've got to lift up
We've got to give love
Oh that's how the world will know us
(Chorus)

[Bridge]
When I'm falling and I can't breathe
The light is fading
In my darkest hour You're here
And I remember what You said
(Chorus)

We're in this together
We're in this together
We're in this together
We're in this together

I knew this song from Sam and Nia Vlogs. A little introduction, they are family from USA who make s daily vlogs about their daily activities. I really love watching them and I don't know why. They use this song as their videos intro and outro. Now, let's be more open-minded and not concern about this band genre. This song is very awesome. I bet you might think this is very melancholic song from hip hop/rock band according to the lyric. However, you are wrong. This song is very encouraging and full of spirit. It even does not make you more depressed or confused.

The music itself is so vivacious. Despite this band is rock genre, I can enjoy the music so well. For your information, I kind of do not like rock songs because they tend to be loud and too fast. It annoys me. However, this band and especially this song is different. This song is very suitable for activities that requires you a lot of energy. It can pump up your energy and you become more positive. For instance, when you are doing gym, you can set this song into your playlist. Or, when you are jogging, you also can listen to this song while you jog.

Here it comes the lyric part. Regardless of this band's genre, the lyric is very universal. The lyric is very amazing, even it's more amazing than the music. The lyric contains very positive and encouraging words. It tells us to not feel lonely and think that we always have someone who will understand everything about you (although it's very theoretical because I haven't found someone like that LOL). However, from different point of view, this song tells to always help our friends that feel lonely, depressed, and such things. This song reminds us that we should always help each other. We do not live alone and are told not to be selfish (although I am so selfish especially in terms of academic things). Moreover, we can imply universally that this song tells us to always remember God. He exists. His existence shows through others, it can be our friends, our parents, or anyone. As well, we should always remember God in every situation we are encountering.

To conclude, from my deepest humble opinion, this song is not religious. It is very universal that everyone can listen to this song because it brings you positivity and encouragement. If you have different opinion about this song or you want to criticize or give some advice to this review, please comment. It really helps me a lot. Thanks for reading and God bless! :)

Love What You Do

College life is very confusing. I often face some hard choices to choose because I always think about the consequences I will take. Sometimes, I think that that is a normal thing happening when adolescence is going to turn into young adult people. However, I still can not accept that thing and it always disrupt my heart.

College life has two huge choices that I should choose, academic (GPA, seminars, studying, and assignments) or social (organizations and committees). I personally truly honestly incredibly want to choose both of them. However, dilemma is always there. Because of my disorder (OCD), I always want to do something perfectly. I can always focus on one thing. Then, I prioritized academic over social.

Most of the time, I feel annoyed by my OCD. OCD makes me to always do everything I want perfectly although I can not do it. I have decided to prioritized academic, yet I can not resist myself to join an organization or some committees. In recruitment process, I said many optimistic answer to the interviewer and they were amazed and hopeful of myself. That time, after I gave my answers, I felt very hopeful, too. Things get escalated very quickly when I am in the middle of the process. I feel very confused of managing my time to academic and social. I always feel confused whenever I get a group assignment, there are some meetings and organizational tasks needed to be done. I feel frustrated too when I know that my lecture orders me to always read the next chapter prior to the next class. It takes a lot of my time. I become more frustrated when I do not get permission to leave organization or committee meetings because of assignments and studying. I come to be unable to handle it.

One day, I vented to my one of close friends about this problem. He has quite good GPA and joins an organization, too. I am really curious of how he can do those two things together. He used to be very funny and sort of childish person. Now, he is grown-up and I am so pathetic. After venting so much, he gave a solution in a very short sentence:

This sentence settles my dilemma now. What I get from this sentence is not that I should love all unwelcome things I do. What I get is that I should carry on what I am doing now, then I should love it as well. I only can do something useful on academic things and makes me enjoyed. All this time, I evidently care too much about what other people say about me. This really influences my life a lot.

Since first semester, seniors have always shouted about "academic is not that very important". I evidently let it enter to my head and ruined my mind. Ever since, I always tried to join some committees and an organization (for now) and make something useful for them. I really put a lot of my effort on that and it seems to be fruitless. That is the power of "always care about what other people say about you".

Now, I reduce that propaganda in my head and try to make it go out of my head. Slowly but sure, I start to be courageous to focus on doing group assignments, individual assignments, studying a lot of chapters, and anything related to academic. In my opinion, focusing on only academic is not completely wrong. Some college students just do that because they think that they are not capable of doing something related to organization or committees. Perhaps, they have tried so many times like myself to join and contribute something on organizations or committees, yet all of their efforts are futile.

I also think that people always want to accomplish something on their lives. I do. In order to do that, some of them take difficult and frustrating ways and others just take bearable and mediocre ways. I take the latter. You should not think that doing something in mediocre ways or in people's comfort zone does not take so much effort. You are wrong! I give all of my efforts on academics. Academics are not my comfort zone. I will always love what I am doing and try not to give any single care to what people say.

God bless you!

Time Management is Nonsense?

Hello, bloggers. I decide to make this blog as a place for me to vent but not too harsh. The reason is because I want to make this blog keep alive while I run out of any good ideas. Actually, I vent a lot because I can't develop other self-defense mechanism.

Anyway, let's get into the topic. I'd like to talk about time management. I will write based on my country's college culture.

As a college or university student, this term is very familiar. I first heard this term when I was in orientation days at my first university (I quit from that university and now I go to my current university). This term is very related to academic and social life of us. My seniors always emphasized us, juniors, that we must be able to do this thing. In my opinion, I really agree on that.

Let's talk about the theory first (these all will be based on merely my opinion). Time management is the art (because it's management so I refer to one of the word I learned about management LOL) of make use of our time such that all of the things we have can be done in a day.

We are required to be able to make schedule of all the things or responsibilities we have to do. After that, we must make priorities and decide which thing has the highest priority. Then, we do that thing. We should watch the time we need and we have spent. If your time needed for doing that thing is over, you should stop and do the next thing on your schedule. And so on until you have nothing remaining to do.

We can't know the future

When we make a schedule, we estimate that no other things will happen during the time something happening in your schedule. However, you are not God who can control time and know the future. As a result, we sometimes or often are surprised that something suddenly is happening in the middle of our schedule. We can't help but face it and it will ruin your schedule. If you can't finished doing a thing based on schedule, you will as not be able to do the next thing based on schedule.

We are different from other people

What if you have made schedule perfectly, you have done the thing properly, but other people seem not to know about time management? That is horrible and sometimes frustrating. I usually face this kind of problem in organization. For example
There is a meeting today and we have made schedule for it. Let's say the meeting starts at 19.00. We have arrived on time or even earlier. However, there are many members, even the chief him/herself come late for about one hour and more. Whether we want it or not, as a good member, we have to wait for them so that the meeting can start. The meeting starts at 20.15. On your schedule, we are supposed to leave for home at 21.00 (we have asked the chief about this). However, because there were some member who came late, the meeting can't be finished based on our schedule. Again, whether we want it or not, we have to wait for it and keep joining the meeting until it's finished.
Do you understand? That is very terrible. That becomes like habit among us in Indonesia. If thing ends up like above, our schedule will be ruined. Me, I will be very frustrated and even I can worry so much about my ruined schedule.

Focus on the time or the result?

This also becomes a dilemma. If we concern about our schedule, we should prioritize the time. Yet, if we concern about the result, we should prioritize the result. Usually, when we concern about the schedule and focus on the time, we can't do the things as perfect as possible. We will work those things perfunctorily. For easy going person, this may not be a big problem.

What if we focus on the result? We probably can get the things as perfect as we want. We probably will get a very good score of it and we probably will feel very satisfied due to our effort. Nevertheless, we may ruin our own schedule because doing things perfectly needs a lot of time. This thing usually happens on OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder), like me.

We haven't known ourselves well

This means that we should know our capabilities. We should know what we can do and what we can't do. Then, we look at our schedule and think, "Can I do those thing?" This is related to what if we focus the result. It's not only focusing the result that will spend more time. When we know that we can't do certain things in our schedule but instead we keep going on, we will spend more time to finish it.

Moreover, will the result be as good as we expect? I don't think so because we know that we can't do that. Sometimes, this can get more horrible if we keep going on.

The fact that I write above is based on merely my experience. Now, I am still struggling to find the best way to manage my time, especially if it deals with other people that always like to not respect the time. I hope this is interesting to read and I apologize if my English is still horrible. Thanks for reading and God bless you!

6 Reasons Why You Should Be Able To Speak English

The language in this blog is English but I am not English native speaker. Actually, I am from Indonesia and my country language is Indonesian. However, my Indonesian is still quite not good because there is more many things that should be learned to be able to speak Indonesian well.

Today, I would like to share my not-so-good opinions about why we should be able to speak English.

1. English can help you doing assignments or research
Nowadays, both school and college students often go to internet or buy imported books to look for reliable answers for their assignments or researches. The materials that they want are often written in English. In order to finish their works, they need to understand the materials that they have got well. Also, in my country, there are some international programs or majors. In this programs or majors, in order to graduate, they must make thesis that should be all written in English. If not, you know what is going to happen, don't you?

2. English can help you in the job interviews

Actually, this is only based on the job interviews in my country. This is very related to globalization. Nowadays, most of companies always want to expand their businesses to other place even other countries. Therefore, they need human resources that are capable of speaking English. So, in the job interview, they often interview the applicants with English. You do not want to give up your dream job just because of language, do you?

3. English can help you find and have pen pals

Pen pals are people that you befriend that are from other countries. Usually, you get to know them only through internet or mail. By having pen pals, we can widen our point of view of this world. You can get know their countries, their cultures, their education, etc. Therefore, you should ask them with mutual understandable language, in this matter is English. Then, you can keep in touch with them and even you can meet up in your country or their countries. Life is awesome, right?

4. English can help you when you are travelling to other countries

No doubt for this. When you are travelling to other countries, you really don't want to mess up your travelling by not be able to communicate with their citizens, do you? English is very helpful even you travel to countries that its main language is not English (like my country, Thailand, Japan, South Korea, France, etc). You can avoid any embarrassment that might happen, you can explain to authorities what you were doing when you get caught, and so on.

5. English can help you help tourists when they ask you for help
I think this has quite big impact not only for yourselves, but also for your countries. If tourists can get any helps from citizens, they will feel comfortable and think that the country they are visiting is hospitable. Then, they will spread this good news to their friends or other people and eventually more tourists will come to your country. This also helps your country to be more well-known.

6. English can "upgrade" yourselves
By being able to speak English fluently actually can make yourself feel improved. You will feel that you have excellence among others. And this thing can ease your life in almost every aspect beside things above mentioned.

Then, where can we learn English?

Well, nowadays, learning process is quite easier because most of us can access internet. You can learn English through:
  • Internet, for example Memrise;
  • Join English course;
  • Buy grammar books;
  • Watching foreign movies or TV series with English subtitle;
  • Talking to yourselves with English;
  • Join English forum, and so on.
So, that's all my opinions about how important English is. If you have other opinions, please let me know by commenting. Thanks!

Being "Kupu" Student is Just Right

Hello, blogger, we meet again this morning. I just want to say that I am such a bad blogger that I am very reluctant to update my blog whereas I got so many ideas in my mind but my mood didn't want me to write those in here.

What I want to say is about joining a student committee or a student organization in university. In the beginning semester, I was very optimized that I could handle so many bustles if I joined some student committees and an organization. Then, here I am in the 3rd semester of my life in my university and I just come back to who I originally am. I become an not active student again because I just find some disadvantages of joining such things.

Punctuality, this is the main reason I stop joining such things. This is very related to one of main purpose of joining such things, time management. I know this and what I get from this is that we learn to plan how long each of our activities would last. However, I am in Indonesia where late is very tolerable because people can give so many alibis to support why they come late. Moreover, there are sometimes no punishments or even light penalties to it. For the case, here is a real example. There is a committee meeting today and I must attend at 3.00 pm at Hall D (one of my faculty buildings). I have arrived there at 2.45 pm so I have to wait them coming for about 30 minutes (there is 15 minutes late tolerance). It's still okay for me. Then, when it's 3.15 pm, there still very few members coming and the chief doesn't want to start the meeting because all members have not attended. This is very horrible and the time management concept becomes a bullshit. I have planned the meeting will last for about 2 hours if it's started punctually. What if not? My plan is ruined. Some of you will think that this is selfish but I don't think so. What if there is someone else who is the same with me? The committee is important, but ourselves are also important.

I want to say some things about late. If I can't attend punctually, I will come late definitely. However, I always tell to my coordinator (if I become a staff) or my chief or leader (if I become a coordinator) that I am going to come late. So, the point is we also have to predict our spending time. I always predict what time I am gonna arrive if I go at this time, including the traffic jam. We should always watch our usual speed and max speed when we go by motorcycle or car so that we can predict our spending time. As well, we have to learn the road culture, that if the road is still good or there are some holes, those also can influence our journey to our destination and influence the time we spend too.

I am not a perfect guy and I often procrastinate (waste so much time). However, I always concern about this thing that makes me so confused and so horrible sometimes. Thanks!
